On Dec. 10, Principal Judi Hayes informed Lake Canyon Elementary School parents from one small cohort class that someone in the classroom had tested positive for COVID-19.
“The last date of known exposure to the classroom cohort was Dec. 3,” wrote Hayes in a letter handed out last Thursday. “You may be contacted by the Sacramento County Public Health (SCPH). In the meantime, SCPH advises that your child or you immediately quarantine to the greatest extent possible, even if you are asymptomatic.”
According to Superintendent Karen Schauer, the class at Lake Canyon will be closed until after winter break.
“This is the first time we have had to temporarily close a small cohort for 14 days,” Schauer said.
Schauer said all safety precautions, including face coverings, social distancing and sanitation are followed to keep staff and students safe.
