Parents and students came out to celebrate at the 20th annual Lights On After School event at Vernon E. Greer Elementary School on Oct. 24. This event highlights all the after-school activities offered to students in Galt. The event also featured many students who entertained the attendees and manned booths to spread the news on all the varied offerings from the district.
Jennifer Collier, the district’s extended learning supervisor, said the event was once again a big hit.
“We had a great group of parents, families and community members join Lights On After School,” Collier said. “We served over 250 free hotdog dinners.”
Student groups represented at the event included Elena Neuburger, Jamie Mejia and Ashley Rivas from the Galt Youth Commission. Greer’s After School Education and Safety Program (ASES) wowed the crowd with their dance routine. ASES also featured a quartet of singers for added entertainment, and McCaffrey Middle School Color Guard strutted their stuff by serving hot chocolate and monster donuts complete with Dracula teeth.
Additional organizations helping make the event a success were Grandma and Grandpa cops, Parks and Recreation, and Cosumnes Fire Department.
