Listen to Council's sales tax discussion

  • Updated

Because Galt City Council’s unanimous approval of putting a 1-cent sales tax on the ballot took place at a special meeting, the decision did not get recorded like regular meetings are.

The Herald makes its own recordings of meetings as a reporting aid, but it does not normally publish them. So that Galt residents can listen to the deliberations in full, the Herald is releasing its recording of the Aug. 4 council meeting. Find the recording below:

The council members spoke at various points about their thoughts on the tax measure. Excerpts of their comments are included below:

Early in the meeting, Council Member Jay Vandenburg addressed Council Members Kevin Papineau and Rich Lozano, saying, “I’m curious why you guys (are) — or are you? — for this tax and resolution as it stands.”
