Editor’s note: This is the second in a three part series introducing Galt Joint Union Elementary School District Board candidates. One elementary school board candidate will be profiled each week through Sept. 30. Profiles will run in ballot order. Candidates’ replies to issue questions will be covered in the Oct. 7 edition.

Traci Skinner believes in education – she was raised by parents who instilled that in her. She also married into a Galt family that also finds education a big priority. Her mother-in-law, Tina Skinner, served on the Galt Joint Union Elementary School District (GJUESD) Board of Trustees for 25 years. Traci and her husband Curt, who grew up attending Galt schools, have been married for 17 years and have four daughters – Cayla, Tara, Candace and Tessa.

“We’re excited to have our children continue that educational tradition,” Skinner said. “She (Tina Skinner) is proud of her service to the district and I strive to follow in her footsteps and have a positive impact on our school district.”

Skinner grew up in Elk Grove and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in child development. For the past four years, she worked for the elementary school district as a substitute teacher. She recently began a new career with the State of California in the Employee Development Department.

She’s been involved with the PTA at Lake Canyon and volunteers as a cheer coach for the Liberty Ranch Jr. Hawks, as well as coaching T-ball.

“My main focus has always been raising my children,” Skinner said. “As a substitute teacher and coach, I have been able to meet many students and families in our school district. I believe it is crucial for children to have a positive educational experience. I see this opportunity of school board member as a new way to be involved and do my part to help all children in our community to have the best educational experience possible.”

She highly values education, respect, honesty and compassion.

The opinions of parents and community members are “extremely important” in Skinner’s opinion. She looks forward to working with all stakeholders to bring Galt’s children the best in education.

“I am passionate about education and would like to do my part to ensure all of our community’s children have every educational opportunity available to them to prepare them for the successful future they all deserve,” Skinner said
