Carl E. Sayre

Carl E. Sayre

Carl E. Sayre, 89, of Galt died on March 27, 2021 in Elk Grove. He was born May 10, 1931 in Sandyville, W.Va.

Carl had resided in Galt since 1963, and had lived in Cleveland, Ohio from 1953 to 1955. He had been employed as a packing mechanic at General Mills for 40 years. He attended Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Galt and had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Carl had a huge heart and loved giving back to people, whether it was dropping off a weekly supply of homemade cookies and banana bread to his credit union, his wife’s hairdresser, Bayside’s youth group, and nursing homes, or showing up weekly to sing at local nursing homes and entertain the residents. When he wasn’t singing, baking or attending his grandchildren’s various events, he’d be talking all about Studebakers, the Army, General Mills, or his beloved wife Evie.

Surviving Carl are his children, Susan (Frank) Schmidt, David Sayre and Tammy Misley; sister, Patty Sayre Cox Flinn; brothers, Bob Sayre and Skip Sayre; nine grandchildren, Michelle (Chris) Woods, Jason (Jennifer) Schmidt, Ron (Hennie) Shindy, Sherif Shindy, Nate (Phuong) Sayre, Aimee (James) O’Brien, Kelly (Michael) Todd, Dinah (Taylor) Ritchey, Casie Misley; and 15 great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his beloved wife Evelyn Sayre; parents, Carl Enoch and Mabel Sayre; stepmother Alma Sayre; brothers Frank Sayre and Bud Sayre; sisters, Marybelle Sayre, Ruth Munson and Helen Sayre.

A graveside service was held Monday at Galt-Arno Cemetery with Pastor Mike Dube of the Lutheran Church officiating.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 604 E Street, Galt, CA 95632.

Ben Salas Funeral Home of Galt is assisting with arrangements.
