Chispa Y. Bitondo or “Pip” as she was affectionately known, age 90, died unexpectedly on Nov. 17, 2020 at her residence. She was born on May 25, 1930 in Elkhart, Ind., to William and Leona Gwynn.
She graduated from Campbell High School in Campbell, Calif., in 1948. It was their first graduating class. She then quickly married her sweetheart, Dominic Anthony Bitondo. Don and Pip stayed in the Campbell area of the Bay Area where she worked as a bookkeeper for several companies for 40 years while Don worked for Stauffer Chemical and then the San Jose Food Bank. Upon their retirements, they relocated from the Bay Area to Galt. They both were active in their community, in the Warrior Booster Club and Galt Lions Club, and were often seen at many local events. They enjoyed going on cruises and trips to Tahoe.
Pip spent her days enjoying her hobbies of sewing and puzzles. She was a collector of hummingbird and mice figurines, and trinkets as well. She loved Christmas and always had the house done up for the holidays. She also enjoyed going to watch her son, daughter and grandsons bowl in their league night on Sunday nights, which they all joined together. She enjoyed cooking for her family even though they often demanded pasta, which she hated but made anyway because she loved her family so much.
Preceding her in death were her husband Don and daughter Donna Lynn Bitondo. Surviving are her son Frank Bitondo of Galt, daughter Deidra (Kenny) Guenther of Lodi, granddaughter Amy (Robert) Dodds of Forney, Texas; grandsons Aaron (Angie) Reed of Lodi, Joe (Jennifer) Bitondo of Galt and Dan (Brittany) Bitondo of Galt; and all of her beloved great grandchildren and her great-great granddaughter.
Due to the current situation, a celebration of life will be planned for a future date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to: Galt Lions Club, P.O. Box 506, Galt, CA 95632; or St. Christopher’s Catholic Church, 950 S. Lincoln Way, Galt, CA 95632.
