Donald ‘Don’ Joseph Maghoney, 83, of Galt passed away April 12, 2019 after a long courageous battle with Leukemia, while surrounded by his family as he crossed over at UC Davis Medical Center. Don was born in Stockton on Nov. 6, 1935 to Esayas and Rose (Jimenez) Maghoney. He grew up in nearby Isleton/Rio Vista area as the third of 12 children. He graduated from Rio Vista High in 1955 and was an active member of the Siquijor Protective Association, Inc. In 1957, Don joined the U.S. Army as a member of Company D 11th Infantry Regiment, Fort Ord, Calif., during the Vietnam War.
Shortly after his return from the U.S. Army, Don met his wife Connie Yapo, “the cute younger sister of his high school buddies” in Sherman Island, Calif. They married in January 1962 and together they had three children.
Don retired after working 37 years as an Operating Engineer to pursue other passions. He enjoyed being outdoors, raising poultry, going to the horse races, watching sports and spending time with his family. His greatest achievements were being a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Surviving him are his wife Connie, son Donnie (Carol) Maghoney, daughters Diana (Bryan) Muth and Lori (Mike) Garcia; seven grandchildren, Brady (Brooke) and Casey Muth, Landon and Ashdon Garcia, Tyler, Alexis and Tanner Maghoney; great granddaughter Vivienne Muth; and many brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, and brothers Tim, Moe and Jerry.
Visitation/Rosary will be held at All Seasons Funeral Chapel in Galt, with the date to be determined.
Services will be held at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church in Galt, with the date to be determined.
