Felix “Sonny” Iturraran

Felix “Sonny” Iturraran

A great library of life, experience and knowledge has been lost on January 15, 2021 with the passing of Felix “Sonny” Louis Iturraran of stroke complications.

Born January 31, 1938 in Lander Wyoming to loving parents Felix and Nona Iturraran, Sonny’s early life on his fathers ranch taught him the values of working hard and dedication to family.

In 1950, Felix Sr. took his successful ranching profits and moved the family west to sunny California. The family settled in Lodi but life took an unexpected turn with Felix Sr.’s untimely passing. While Nona stayed in Lodi working as a nurse at Lodi Memorial Hospital, Sonny moved back to Lander Wyoming to work mining uranium and construction.

It was in Lander that Sonny met the love of his life and soulmate Elizabeth Betty Jo Bramman sitting behind the wheel of her gorgeous 1939 Chevy sedan. The two became inseparable and married July 8, 1957.

Sonny continued working construction and became a full-fledged Operating Engineer in 1961. Honing his craft on large earthmoving equipment, Sonny became a master of the Gradall and could deftly use the arm and bucket of the machine like an extension of his own arm and hand to write his name in the earth that would become the highways and interstates of Nevada, Arizona and California.

In 1965 Sonny and Betty put down roots, purchasing two acres between Lodi and Galt making a home for the family and creative space for building and restoring classic automobiles.

Hard work and lots of overtime allowed Sonny to make what he considered one of his best decisions, to retire early from the construction industry and focus on he and Betty’s love of classic cars, car shows, road trips and the many, many friends that share the same passions.

Sonny is preceded in death by his loving wife Elizabeth Betty Jo and survived by his son Felix “Boo” Peter Iturraran and adopted son William “Billy” Hildenbrand who are heartbroken at the loss of a Best Friend, Companion and Loving Father.

Committal will be private. In lieu of flowers, Sonny would have insisted you treat yourself well and that you remember he and Betty with joy in your hearts and the knowledge that they are together at the “Big Car Show in the Sky”.
