Fern E. Bjelland, a Galt resident for 51 years, passed on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2019 at Lodi Memorial Hospital from natural causes, just five months shy of her 100th birthday. She was born July 7, 1919 in Kings City, Calif., to the late Peter and Hazel Nevin.

Fern was the youngest of five children and was educated in the Kings City school system. She married the late Dewey Bjelland and worked in the family farming business as a bookkeeper.

In earlier years, she served as a 4-H leader, teaching sewing and cooking. She loved her animals and had several cherished pets. Family and friends knew her to be a gifted piano and organ player. She was a collector of antiques, enjoyed traveling and loved flowers.

Surviving Fern are her daughter Cathleen (Harry), son Dick; two grandchildren, Reina and Harry (Luda); great-grandson Michael; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She will be deeply missed by those who loved her.

The family would like to express its heartfelt thanks to the wonderful caregivers at the Golden Living Center.
