Fernando Pereira, 82, of Terry, Montana, passed away on April 2nd, 2023, in Glendive at the VA Hospital.
Fernando was born on December 27th, 1940 on Terceira in the Azores to Joao Machado Pereira and Angelina de Jesus Borges Pereira.
Shortly after immigrating to the United States, he became a naturalized citizen and served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. His tour was spent on the USS Independence assigned to VA-75, a great source of pride for him. After his time in the US Navy, he worked as a dairyman in Northern California.
His lifelong hobby of amateur ham radios was known to many, and his house was easily identifiable by the plentiful array of antennas attached to his house.
He moved to Terry after falling in love with the town in 2007 and owned a home there until his passing spending hours upon hours “tinkering” and using his ham radios to connect with other operators around the world.
Fernando was predeceased by his parents and his wife, Diana Maragos. He is survived by his children from his first marriage Michael (Cynthia) Pereira of Atlantic Beach, FL and his daughter Michele Barringer of Terry, Montana. Grandchildren: Kalib Pereira of Chesapeake, Virginia; Dylan and Ethan Pereira of Atlantic Beach, Florida and sister Liana Raubach of Galt, California.
