James Carlton Hurst, 79, passed away Aug. 29, 2020 at home, surrounded by family. He was born and raised in Houston, Texas.
Jim married Nita Carroll in 1961 and moved his family to California in 1964 and to Galt in 1965. He had many occupational skills, and his biggest pleasure was when he was working in his business at Jim’s Country Repair, building horse trailers. He enjoyed working with many Galt youth when his two girls were in 4-H and FFA. He was a calf roper and also a team roper. He enjoyed putting in a garden each year.
Jim leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Nita; daughters, Jody (Mark) Abarca and Kelly Apley; grandsons, Martin Apley, Alexander Abarca, Gabriel Abarca; granddaughter Abigail Abarca; great-grandsons Kyler Apley, Weston Apley and Hank Abarca; and niece Billye Hurst McGill and nephew John Hurst.
Interment will be private, and there will be a social distancing celebration of life at the Hurst residence at 9989 Orr Road in Galt on Saturday, Sept. 19 from 12-3 p.m. Masks will be available.
