Jane Ellen Jaynes

Janie (Jane) Ellen Jaynes passed away on October 13, 2021 at the age of 76yrs. She was born on August 1, 1945 in Lodi, California to Grace and Robert Martin and was the youngest of 8 children.

Janie met the love of her life, Jesse Jaynes, at the age of 14. The story goes they met in high school when Janie was a freshman and Jesse a senior. They took one look at each other and fell fast and hard in love. They became inseparable and married at a little chapel in Reno on January 31, 1960.

Janie loved to take road trips and would always point out the cows along the way. She and Jesse would bicker and laugh the entire time. He always called her by his pet name, “whistle britches”. She loved to go on vacation with her family, Lake Tahoe and Bodega bay were favorites. But no matter where she went, she had fun.

Janie's family was everything to her. She especially loved her grandchildren. She enjoyed spending as much time as she could with them. There are so many memories of her baking Christmas cookies every year with the grandkids. They enjoyed that so much. Janie had a sense of humor and loved to joke around with her grandkids. She also loved to watch scary movies with them. No matter what the situation, the grandkids knew they were loved.

Janie loved her family and friends with all her heart. She always had a warm hug and huge, beautiful smile. She made friends easily and kept them for life. She loved to sew, quilt, crochet, wear crazy themed sweaters and vests for every holiday, all things bears, and she loved her wigs. In fact, one of her sons remember them getting into a minor car accident when he was younger, and her wig flew off her head and stuck to the rear-view mirror. She laughed uncontrollably.

Janie was such a fun and happy person. She wasn't opposed to pushing the limit. It wasn't uncommon for her to haul ass down the street in her son's Super Bee or touching a turtle when she was told not to.

Janie worked for Lodi Unified School District as a bus driver from 1988-2010.

Janie is survived by her husband of 61 years, Jesse J. Jaynes, sons, Robby L. Jaynes (Sherri), Jessie E. Jaynes (Sunnie), S. Craig Jaynes (Debbie), siblings, Edwin Summers, Sue Wageman, 11 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents Grace and Robert Martin, siblings Leon Summers, Oscar Summers, Wilda Maldonado, Wayland Summers and twin sister Janet Martin.

One of the family members said, “Every moment I had with her is my favorite memory”. Janie requested not to have a service. But, the family asks that you add your favorite memory to the guest book so everyone can enjoy the stories and celebrate the life of Janie Jaynes, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
