Monte Gene Nelson

Monte Gene Nelson, Age 79, Galt, CA. passed away on Aug 19th, 2022.

He was born in Oroville, CA on 4/14/1943. He graduated from Oroville High School. He was married to the absolute love of his life and best friend Carol Jean Nelson for 55 years and has two boys, Michael and Chris. He has two daughter in-laws, Brandii and Miranda along with two amazing grandchildren, Sean and Nick.

“Spud” as he was known by his family and friends worked for the Western Pacific Railroad (later became part of the Union Pacific Railroad). He proudly served his country and is a veteran of the U.S. Army, Rank E4 serving two tours in Vietnam. He loved and adored his family. He provided joy and laughter to everyone around him. For a time, he provided equestrian therapy for disabled kids, and he loved it. He also volunteered at the local foodbank. Spud was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer, coin collector, and jack of all trades. He leaves his boys with the knowledge and confidence to tackle any project placed in front of them. He was known for being a great conversationalist and great storyteller. He’d infamously start with “to make a long story short” and we all know how that went. He will be sorely missed. We love you Spud. Rest in peace.

A celebration of Spud’s life with Military Honors will be held at Galt United Methodist Church. 571 C Street. Sept 9th, 2022 at 1pm. Family is requesting no black attire.

Dress casual and comfortable.
