Wendell H. Houck passed away peacefully at the family ranch in Herald on April 17, 2023, at the age of 102. He was born Jan. 14, 1921, on the Potawatomi Reservation.

Wendell had served in the U.S. Army, which later became U.S. Air Force. He served in the armed forces for 25 years.

Wendell settled in Galt after the service and joined the Galt Police Department for 24 years. Wendell was well known and loved by many. After his retirement, he became a full-time rancher.

Wendell is survived by his wife Lana; daughters Gerry Bryant, Joanne Seibel and Jean Moersch; brothers Leroy Houck and John Houck; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Wendell was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Florence.

Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 20, at 11 a.m. at Faith Community Church, 18621 N. 99 Frontage Road in Acampo.

Ben Salas Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
