Luke Ortega of the Galt Gators won the biggest award he could have taken home at the Galt Gators Awards Night when he won the Galt Gator of the Year on July 25.

Ortega, 12, broke the Eureka Conference Championship record for the 50 butterfly with his time of 27.94 seconds on July 21.

One day earlier, he tied the conference record for the 11-12 boys 100 IM with his time of 1:04.61.

He also set a new Gator record in the 50 backstroke with his time of 31.44 seconds at the same meet.

Besides setting those records at the conference championships, Ortega had previously re-broken his own Gator record several times during the season in the 50 butterfly and the 100 IM.

The Gators also recognized their championship finalists at the awards ceremony, the Swim-a-thon-winners, most improved, coaches’ choice and high points swimmers.

Coaches’ Choice swimmers included Logan Richmond for the six and under boys, John Carey for 7-8 boys, Kayla Brandon for 7-8 girls, Alec Ortega for 9-10 boys, Monica Valencia for 11-12 girls, John Pilegaard for 11-12 boys, Sophia Munoz for 13-14 girls, Joshua Bustamante for 13-14 boys, Claire Pilegaard for 15-18 girls and Ian Elia for 15-18 boys.
