Sophomore guard Ezra Manjon earned a spot on the Preseason All-Big West Team when conference officials announced their selections on Nov. 12.

The Antioch native is the only sophomore on the six-member squad.

This is the latest honor bestowed by the Big West to Manjon, who ended the 2019-20 season as the league’s Freshman of the Year. In addition to earning second team all-conference honors, he became the first true freshman since 1974 to win the Big West Player of the Week award twice in a single season last year.

In addition to finishing his debut season ranked No. 62 in the nation with a 2.06:1 assist-to-turnover ratio, he led all Big West freshmen in six statistical categories and held the following top-15 rankings among all league players: No. 3 in total assists (130), No. 4 in assists per game (4.06), No. 5 in field goal percentage (.454) and assist-to-turnover ratio, No. 10 in free throw percentage (.760) and No. 14 in scoring (12.13 ppg).

In 2019-20, Manjon led all Aggies in scoring in 11 games and finished with team-high assist totals in 23 of 32 contests.

UC Davis’ preseason all-conference honoree is one of nine players from last year’s roster returning for 10th-year head coach Jim Les this season. With the addition of six newcomers, a total that includes three true freshmen, men’s basketball will seek its fourth Big West championship in the last seven seasons, beginning Nov. 25 at the Silicon Valley Classic — a three-game season-opening tournament hosted by Santa Clara.
