Saturday, Oct. 16 Liberty Ranch competed in one of the most fun races of the year at Hughson High School.

The course incorporates a mud pit in which runners must go through twice during the 4K race.

Raghav Vasudevan was Liberty Ranch’s top finisher with a 7th place out of 145 runners with a 14:04, followed by Cyrus Walker (67th), Sean Nietschke (75th), Cole Parker (102nd) and Timmy Corcoran (139th).

In the freshman race, Kyle Oltmanns took a break from running varsity to run the frosh/soph race where he finished 2nd only 7 seconds behind the race winner. Shawn Nichols, also a varsity runner, tried this race finishing 35th.

“Kyle has been our constant third man on varsity and Nichols our 6th man, so it was nice to let them go race runners in their age division,” Coach Brian Robinson said. “This race was for fun and I believe they all had fun jumping into the mud pit.”

In the girls division, Halle Ory ended up finishing 8th in the frosh/soph race, also normally a varsity runner in other races and a returning “All League” runner, did well by being the first runner to get to the mud pit which earns an additional prize.

In the varsity girls division Xianna Morales, finished with a 46th place and a time of 19:31 for the 4K course.

This race is not a normal race, not just because of the mud pit but the crowd that surrounds it as runners try to out perform others with their best dives into the mud.

Next race for Liberty Ranch is League Finals at Folsom Lake College on Wednesday, Oct 27.
