Cristian Martinez competes in the D 4 race at the CIF SJS Cross-Country Sub-Section meet in Angel’s Camp Nov. 9, in which he would place third.

Cristian Martinez crossed the finish line third at the Sac-Joaquin Section Cross-Country Sub-Sections, helping the Liberty Ranch Hawks to advance to the SJS Cross-Country Section Championships after an impressive finish at Frogtown in Angel’s Camp.

The Hawks finished seventh as a team in Division 4 with a score of 224. Calaveras won the race with its score of 72, followed by  El Dorado, West Campus, Hughson, St. Mary’s, and Bret Harte. Sonora, Christian Brothers and Riverbank will also advance to sections as the top 10 teams qualified for sections, which will be held at Willow Hill in Folsom on Nov. 16.

Martinez finished in 16:04.7, Braden Birkes finished in 16:56.2, Raghav Vasudevan finished in 18:10.2, Daniel Gonzalez finished in 18:30, Cyrus Walker finished in 18:46.5, Cole Parker finished in 18:56.6 and Sean Nietschke finished in 19:28.7.

The Hawks’ lone varsity girls runner, Xianna Morales, finished in 23:59.5.

The Hawks will compete starting at 9 a.m. Saturday at Willow Hill, which is located at Folsom High School.
