Despite being the underdog, the Liberty Ranch Hawks matched up in a close battle with fourth seed Hoover on March 3 that saw the visiting Hawks fall 66-64 in Fresno.

The game was the opening round of the CIF Nor Cal Division 4 boys’ basketball playoffs, and armed with the 13th seed, the Hawks came close against Hoover, who made it to the regional semifinals against Brookside Christian before exiting with a four-point loss.

Jalen Patterson led in his final high school game and played a statement-making game with a triple-double, scoring 26 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and earning 10 assists while Cody Smith added a double-double with 14 and 12 rebounds against Hoover. Max Oliver also scored in double-digits with 11.

The Hawks ended their first season under new head coach Brian Chavez at 18-15 and appeared in their second straight Sac-Joaquin Section Championship game as well as their sixth straight Nor Cal appearance.
