The Liberty Ranch Hawks knew they’d have a tough matchup in Nevada Union in the first round of their Sac-Joaquin Section Division III volleyball playoff game Oct. 29.

Still, they nearly pulled off a win in the third set of their matchup against the number one seed.

Nevada Union won 25-12, 25-9, 25-21 to advance to the quarterfinals against Kimball. Nevada Union later shut out Kimball to play in the semifinals Nov. 5 against fourth seed Hilmar.

The Hawks earned the 16th seed in playoffs and were the underdogs, having come from a D V league.

However, they defeated 17th seed Mountain House 3-2 in the play-in game to advance to the first round against Nevada Union.

The Hawks finished the year 7-3 in league and 17-21 overall.
