Sacramento State baseball has added a season-opening, three-game series at Arizona State to its schedule, head coach Reggie Christiansen announced Feb. 12.

Sacramento State will travel to Tempe to face the Arizona State Sun Devils in a three-game set from Friday, Feb. 19 through Sunday, Feb. 21 at Phoenix Municipal Stadium. Friday and Saturday’s games will both start at 5:35 p.m. while Sunday’s finale will start at 11:35 a.m.

The series replaces the originally scheduled weekend at UC Santa Barbara, which was canceled in January.

The Hornets and Sun Devils have played each other just once – a 2014 NCAA Regional matchup in San Luis Obispo, in which Sacramento State eliminated number 18 Arizona State, 5-4. The win was the program’s first Div. I NCAA Regional win and gave Sacramento State its first 40-win season under head coach Christiansen.

The 2021 season of Hornet baseball now gets underway in just one week. Sacramento State’s home opener is in two weeks, a Thursday afternoon home contest against the visiting Pacific Tigers on Feb. 25.
