Solomon Witkin wrestles in the championship match of the 154-pound weight class, which he would eventually win.

The Liberty Ranch Hawks had a successful end to the league portion of their season as they won multiple Sierra Valley Conference Championships after competing in four championship matches at the SVC wrestling tournament at Bradshaw Christian High School.

Kinyaa’aanii Nuno, Solomon Witkin and Jose Acosta won the SVC title in their weight classes and Nuno and Witkin finished the league season undefeated as well. In an all-cousin match for a girls wrestling title, the Lady Hawks’ Julissa Del Toro and Itzel Medina competed for a title with Del Toro defeating her cousin 9-1.

In all, the Hawks’ day set up high expectations for this weekend’s Sac-Joaquin Section Division V Wrestling Tournament, which will take place starting Friday at Rosemont High School.

Nuno pinned his opponent from El Dorado, and in the 154-pound championship match, Witkin pinned his opponent from Rosemont with 1:43 left in the second period. In the 285-pound championship match, Acosta defeated his opponent from Rosemont by fall in the second period to end the Hawks’ day.

Edgar Medina placed second in the 122-pound weight class for the Hawks after competing against Rosemont and Kaylee Ceja won first place over Bradshaw Christian.

The D V tournament starts at 10 a.m. Friday and continues through Saturday.
