Saturday will be the Liberty Ranch Hawks’ return to the CIF State Cross Country Championships, with Cristian Martinez representing his school and looking to challenge for first place.
Martinez has six wins this year, including winning both Sierra Valley Conference meets, the SVC Championship and the Bret Harte Frogtown Invitational.
He finished third in the Sac-Joaquin Section Championships with his time of 16:25 but his personal record in the 5,000 meter race is 15:42.0, which is less than the winner of the SJS Championship (Martinez’s personal record in three-mile races is 15:37.0).
The race will take place in Woodward Park in Fresno, which has been the home of the meet since 1987. The top three teams and top 10 individuals in each race will receive awards in each of five divisions for boys and girls.
The Hawks previously competed at state in cross-country in 2017 and 2016.
General admission for the event is $10 for adults and $5 for children and students with an ASB card plus seniors 65 and over.
The Division IV boys’ race will take place at noon, the D V boys’ race will take place at 11 a.m., the D II girls’ race will take place at 8:30 a.m.
The D II boys’ race will take place at 9:30 a.m., the D I girls’ race takes place at 11:30 a.m. and the D I boys’ race will take place at 1 p.m.
