Andrew Wheeler-Omiunu looks to make a play during Sac Republic FC’s away game against Reno on Sept. 26.

Republic FC shared the spoils with Reno 1868 FC on Saturday night following a 1-1 draw at Greater Nevada Field.

The playoff-bound boys in Old Glory Red are now just one game away from tying a club all-time record for consecutive matches without a loss at 11 – a feat the club conquered during its inaugural season in 2014.

The result for Mark Briggs’ men means the squad is still in contention for the top spot in Group A and can secure the top spot with two wins in its last two matches, as long as Reno loses its last two fixtures. If 1868 FC collects one point over its last two games, Reno will take first, and Sacramento will solidify second place in the group.

Just before halftime, the hosts snatched a 1-0 lead when a Brent Richards header gave his side the first lead of the game.

In the 51st minute, Dekel Keinan leveled the match when fellow defender Juan Barahona whipped in a corner kick that the Israeli international buried with a perfectly placed header into the top corner. The goal was Keinan’s first of his career in Sacramento while the assist was Barahona’s second this season.

Republic FC continued pushing forward in search of a late winner and outshot the hosts on the night 18-10. The Indomitable Club also created 12 scoring chances on the night compared to Reno’s six. SRFC also conjured up seven corner kicks over the course of the contest while Reno did not manage to attempt a single one.

Three days after the game, Dekel Keinan’s defensive efforts and second-half strike against Reno 1868 FC, securing another point and extending the club’s undefeated streak to 10, earned him a selection to the USL Championship Team of the Week for Week 14. Keinan made his third start this season for the Republic and netted his first career goal for Republic FC in the 51st minute. The weekly league-wide honor is his third of his career and the first during his tenure in Sacramento.

The experienced center back registered two interceptions, accounted for two clearances, won 10 of 11 duels as well as six of six aerial duels and contributed three tackles against Reno. His 11 total duels were tied for the most on the team alongside Villyan Bijev.

Keinan is the Indomitable Club’s tenth Team of the Week selection during the 2020 campaign – sixth to the starting eleven TOTW after Matt Mahoney earned the award in Week 10, Dariusz Formella picked up a pair of honors this season, Ashkanov Apollon was named to his first career selection for Week 8 and Jordan McCrary earned a spot for his Week 9 performance. Four SRFC players have been named to the TOTW bench, including Juan Barahona for Week 1, Hayden Sargis for Week 7, Cam Iwasa for Week 8, and Kharlton Belmar for Week 12.

Next up for the boys in Old Glory Red is a fourth and final regular season fixture against Tacoma Defiance. The midweek matchup is slated for Wednesday, Sept. 30 with kickoff against the Pacific Northwest club set for 7 p.m. PT.
