Track league finals

The track league finals were held last Saturday at Rosemont High School. Eighteen Liberty Ranch athletes will be moving on to sections and 11 Galt High athletes will be heading there also.

In order to be named all-league in track, athletes have to place first at the league meet.  Four local athletes placed first. Yousef Diab from Liberty Ranch won the 400m dash and Liberty’s Larry Lucas placed first in the 110 hurdles. Galt also had two first place athletes, Kayson Jones in the Pole Vault and Valentina Ortega in the shot put.

Hawk Steevie Ruiz had a personal record in the 1600m of 5:36.19, which just happens to be a new Liberty Ranch record.

Liberty head coach Jackie Correia says her athletes put in the work this season. “I'm extremely proud of these athletes and the hard work that they put in throughout the season to get to this point,” said Correia.

“Track and Field is not an easy sport to accomplish, nor is it an easy sport to make it onto State. However, these athletes have endured the practices, league meets, invitationals and the dedication that it takes to get to this level. I couldn't be more proud of a group.”

Sections will take place on May 9 and May 11 at Weston Ranch High School in Stockton. This will determine who goes on to the next level, which is Masters, then State.
