Oscar Romero navigates the basepaths in the first game of the Warriors’ doubleheader against Rio Linda.

With their football counterparts playing against one another a short distance away, the Galt Warrior baseball program hosted Rio Linda on March 27 in a doubleheader.

After succumbing to the Knights in game one, the Warriors’ offense tore into the Knights’ pitching in game two, amassing a 17-6 win.

Oscar Romero led the Warriors by going 3 for 4 with three RBI and three runs and a double, while Larry Perucca went 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs and Sebastian Soto went 1 for 3 with one hit and two RBI.

Mason Tassano pitched the entire game, which was shortened due to the mercy rule, pitching five innings and giving up three earned runs (six total) and one walk while striking out 11.

The Knights used four pitchers, with Spencer Emigh taking the loss.

Samuel Lara led the Knights at the plate after going 2 for 3 with two RBI and a run.

Rio Linda won the first game 7-3, with the Warriors being held to runs in the first and sixth innings.

Romero, Hunter Henke and Aiden Hall scored for the Warriors, with Manteo Santoyo and Soto contributing RBIs.

Soto, who picked up the loss, pitched three innings, giving up four unearned runs on two hits and two walks. Soto struck out five. Henke pitched four innings and gave up three earned runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out two.

The doubleheader was the Warriors’ third and fourth games of the week after playing twice against Bradshaw Christian.

The Warriors lost 13-2 on March 24 and lost 11-3 March 26. Having had a few days of rest, they’ll host Johnson Thursday, April 1 at 11 a.m.
