Galt High School basketball hosted a tournament over the weekend and beat Stockton Christian 71-29 in their first game of the event.
Everyone that played was able to get some points late Thursday night. Senior Brock Jedlicka led the team with 18, senior Jayden Gunter put in 15, with juniors Wilson Garcia and Zavion Mitchell each scoring 13. Sophomore Carson Cagle scored 8 and seniors Andre Saldivar and Antonio Suarez each grabbed two points.
Head Coach Lee McCowan only has one returning player from last year so it’s back to basics with an almost brand new team.
“It’s definitely a new group,” said McCowan. “We have a lot of JV players up now. We are trying to get a cohesive unit, everyone playing together and just making sure we are whole.”
McCowan is excited to have three teams this year, freshman, JV and varsity. “It’s great; we have nine players on the freshman team. Now we actually have a basis to start a program, which is awesome. We haven’t had that in two years. It is wonderful to have so many freshmen come out and try this brand of basketball.”
Galt’s first league game will be at home Jan. 6 against Bradshaw Christian.
