The Warriors’ boys soccer team faced Rosemont at Warrior Stadium Thursday night.
Galt started off immediately dominating and Oscar Avalos, Miguel Garcia and Giovanni DeLeon each put in a goal within the first 25 minutes of the game.
Rosemont got close and after a side kick by Rosemont, the referee thought he saw a handball by Galt in the box and called for a penalty kick. That made it in, and Rosemont had a point. Rosemont was not able to score any goals by traditional means and before the game was over, the referee had called three penalty shots against the Warriors. Two out of the three made it and goalie Edgar China was able to block the third kick to save the game.
“The game against Rosemont was tough,” said Renteria. “We started off well with a 3-0 lead in the first 25 minutes. The boys were playing well and following a lot of things we worked on in practice. Although I don’t agree with the officials, Rosemont was able to get back into the game with three penalty kicks. Luckily for us, Edgar came up with a big save on the third penalty and we were able to hold onto the lead until the final whistle. It was a moment of panic because the boys were obviously frustrated with the ref, and it felt like Rosemont was going to pull off a comeback. They have a great team, but I think we played well all the way through.”
Galt is ranked first in league with a 5-0-1 league record with their only tie being against Liberty Ranch.
