Warriors celebrate

The Galt Warriors celebrate their undefeated Sierra Valley Conference Championship on Feb. 11.

A 13-1 win over Union Mine on senior night propelled the Galt Warrior boys soccer program to its sixth consecutive league championship and fourth straight year of going undefeated in the Sierra Valley Conference.

The Warriors have been undefeated in league since the 2016-17 season, when they went 8-0-2 and have won the SVC every season since 2014.

Galt won the SVC with its 10-0 record and were 19-1-1 heading into the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III playoffs, in which they played Nevada Union in the first round on Feb. 18.

The Warriors were awarded the first seed in the D III playoffs; they were automatically moved up a division after winning two straight Section Championships per Sac-Joaquin Section rules, according to Galt coach Freddy Renteria.

The Warriors, who were ranked 67th in the state entering this week’s playoff tournament, hosted 16th seed Nevada Union, who had defeated Rosemont in a play-in game on Feb. 17. The winner of the Galt-Nevada Union game will play the winner of eighth seed Christian Brothers and ninth seed Atwater on Thursday, Feb. 20.
