The Liberty Ranch Hawks earned their first league win after defeating Union Mine 29-13 on the road.
The win put the Hawks at 1-1 in the Sierra Valley Conference after their loss to Bradshaw Christian one week earlier.
The Hawks held the Diamondbacks scoreless in the first half before the Diamondbacks scored twice in the third quarter to come within two points of the Hawks.
Within minutes, the Hawks scored again on an Isiah Ricci 55-yard run to pull away from the Diamondbacks.
The Hawks added to their lead in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
In the first quarter, the Hawks’ Aidan Carr scored on a 12-yard quarterback keeper and Tony Rangel rushed for a two-point conversion.
Ricci scored on an 11-yard run in the third quarter and Damion Ochoa kicked the PAT for 15-0 Liberty Ranch lead.
Clayton Byer of Union Mine threw a 20-yard pass to Dalton Heikes in his first of two touchdown passes of the night. When Union Mine’s two-point conversion attempt failed, the Diamondbacks trailed 15-6.
Several minutes later, Byer completed a pass to Koby Springer for a touchdown and the PAT kick brought the score to 15-13, Liberty Ranch.
Carr scored on a short run in the fourth and Ochoa kicked the PAT for the win.
The win put the Hawks at 3-4 overall heading into their home game against El Dorado Friday.
